Aerospace Hardware Crates Industry: Aerospace

Challenge

Craters & Freighters faced a unique project for a client in the aerospace industry, tasked with transporting a highly sensitive and irregularly shaped component. Standard crates weren’t suitable due to the component’s fragility and specific durability requirements. Our client also requested a custom color for branding. Additionally, the crate had to be durable yet easy to handle, and the component protected from shock and vibration during transport.

Solution

To meet these challenges, Craters and Freighters designed a custom crating solution. We used SolidWorks CAD modeling to develop a crate that perfectly conformed to the component’s unique shape, ensuring a snug fit. The interior featured custom-cut, high-density foam inserts to cradle the component and provide cushioning against shocks and vibrations.

The crate was reinforced with custom-fabricated steel corner supports, enhancing durability and protecting against external forces during handling. For ease of access, a hinged lid with built-in handles and twist latches were included, allowing for efficient loading and unloading while ensuring secure closure. The crate was painted in a custom requested color for easy identification and branding.

Outcome

This engineered crating solution significantly improved the shipping process for our client. The tailored foam lining minimized movement, reducing the risk of damage, while the robust construction met all relevant shipping regulations. The combination of advanced CAD modeling and high-quality materials ensured a seamless shipping experience.
